How to Get Your Real Estate License in California?

The requirements to become a real estate agent in California are clear - be 18 or older, complete three required courses, pass the written license exam and, finally, complete the license application.

  1. Step 1: Meet General California Real Estate License Requirements
    • Be 18 years old or older.
    • Be honest and truthful. Conviction of a crime may result in the denial of California Real Estate license.
  2. Step 2:  Follow California Real Estate license course requirements
    • Real Estate Principles and,
    • Real Estate Practice , and
    • One course from the following list: Real Estate Appraisal, Property Management, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Economics, Legal Aspects of Real Estate, Real Estate Office Administration, General Accounting, Business Law, Escrows, Mortgage Loan Brokering and Lending, Computer Applications in Real Estate, Common Interest Developments.
  3. Step 3: Collect documents needed to apply for California Real Estate License Exam such as
    • Course transcripts
  4. Step 4: Pass California Real Estate License Exam.
    • You get 150 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 3 hours.
    • The minimum passing score of the California Real Estate License exam  is 70%
  5. Step 5:   Choose a sponsoring broker.
    • You would need to find a sponsoring broker to start your career as a real estate agent in California.
