In today's technological world, there are many options for getting an education, including taking part in an online curriculum. You may have heard that online courses are easier than their classroom counterparts or that you are totally on your own when you enroll - both of which are not true. Here are 5 common myths about getting an online education:

1. The quality of an online course is not as good as a traditional brick and mortar school - If you take the time to research your online school and confirm that it is accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, you are going to receive a quality online education. Accreditation is a reliable indicator that you are enrolling in a quality school. Partner with a school that has the right credentials and benefit from a curriculum that has been evaluated and critiqued to conform to specific standards.

2. Online learning is easier than attending a live school - If you think that you are going to breeze through an online course, think again. If anything, you have to be more dedicated to your online education - if you don't complete your assignments and lessons on a regular basis, you are not going to learn the material and you are not going to pass the course. Remember you are unsupervised in an online course - it is up to you to meet deadlines and avoid procrastination. While you have more flexibility as to when you learn, you still need to devote ample time to stay on track.

3. You are on your own with an online school - An indicator of a high-quality online school is one that offers live student support. This means that you can call and actually speak one-on-one with someone when you have a question or need assistance. You are not alone when you enroll in an online course; your school should have a team of professionals available to assist you. Choose a school that has an educational support and student services department - make sure that all of your educational needs are met.

4. You need to be tech-savvy to enroll in an online course - Online courses are typically designed to be user-friendly. This means that anyone - from the novice to the pro - can navigate an online course. Typically your course website will have a clear and obvious place to log in - once you provide your username and password, you will be able to access your course materials. There will be instructions how to proceed through your course. In an online setting, the assignments, quizzes and tests will be available through your computer. You proceed through your course at your own pace and on your own schedule.

5. An online school is not as respected as a live school - Worried about employers not recognizing your career training? Don't! In today's educational times, more and more schools are offering online programs - in fact, it is even commonplace to get a bachelor's or master's degree online. Just make sure to check the school's credentials - including accreditation, approvals, memberships and student testimonials. A respected online school will be respected by today's employers.

What are you waiting for? Partner with an online school and get the career training you've always wanted. With high-quality online courses, in-depth educational materials, personalized student support and user-friendly courses, you'll be ready to build a solid foundation that sets the stage for an exciting career.

Select Allied Green Career Training Courses Receive "USGBC Education Provider" Designation from USGBC

Allied Schools was awarded the designation "USGBC Education Provider" on select green courses, giving it the specialized distinction of providing a high-quality green building education that has been peer reviewed and approved by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Meeting high standards and providing an education that will help professionals achieve or maintain their green building credentials, Allied's green courses were approved and added to the USGBC's online Catalog of Courses. Smart choice. In a U.S. Department of Education report, research studies from 1996 to 2008 that addressed the effectiveness of online education were analyzed using 51 factors that can influence learning efficacy. The report, titled the Evaluation of Evidence-Based Practices in Online Learning - A Meta-Analysis and Review of Online Learning Studies, revealed findings such as:

- Online education is more effective than face-to-face learning.

- Face-to-face learning alone is the least effective method among three types studied.

According to the report, adding video and online quizzes or other forms of interactive learning aides may be appealing, but they may not fully increase educational efficacy. Instead, it's the time spent on learning combined with the additional communication opportunities that online delivery affords that make online education an effective learning choice.

Margaret Jones Recognized as Online School's DETC Outstanding Graduate

Allied Schools, a provider of online education, is proud to announce that alumnus Margaret Jones of Aliso Viejo, CA was awarded the 2010 Distance Education and Training Council's Outstanding Graduate Award.

When Margaret was laid off from her job, she faced a familiar challenge - she lacked computer skills desired by potential new employers. After several frustrating interviews, she took advantage of the services of a One Stop Center, which helps qualified individuals to locate government funded retraining options.

"I was going to the One Stop Center in Irvine, CA and discussed the possibility of retraining with them and they gave me a list of schools and courses," said Margaret. "I was impressed by the fact that Allied was offering all the courses I wanted to take."

Margaret enrolled in Allied's Vocational Rehabilitation School. She developed her computer skills by successfully completing the online Microsoft Office Professional and Computerized Financial Accounting courses.

"I started the courses in January and completed in September," said Margaret. "My experience was extremely positive. The materials were understandable and followed a logical order and the fact that I had a Student Representative calling me to make sure everything was ok was very helpful. I was self taught in Microsoft Office and knew nothing about accounting. I feel I have learned so much in the last few months."

According to the DETC, there are more than three million distance education students studying with DETC members. Allied is a part of this elite member group. And we encourage all of our students to continue their pursuits for brighter futures through quality distance education.

"Now I feel I have extra skills to offer. I would like to go on and further my career in accounting," says Margaret of her future plans.

To learn more about Allied's 20+ online, career training programs in medical, business, real estate and emerging green technologies, please call 888-501-7686.

Allied President and CEO George Achenbach and Allied Vocational Rehabilitation Director Jacqueline Gomez presented Margaret Jones (center) with her award.

Available Sizes: 300 X 200 800 X 533 1800 X 1200 3840 X 2560

Allied President and CEO George Achenbach and Allied Vocational Rehabilitation Director Jacqueline Gomez presented Margaret Jones (center) with her award.

Available Sizes: 200 X 300 533 X 800 1200 X 1800 2560 X 3840

AHDI Approved, College-Level Transcription Training Offered at Accredited School

One of 20 accredited schools nationwide to offer an AHDI approved medical transcription program, Allied Schools' newly designed courses include concentrated training modules that provide students with a professional and affordable training option. Property management offers a wide range of possibilities once you establish yourself. Here is a brief synopsis of what is involved in this growing field.

You can choose to focus your efforts on smaller properties, including apartments and townhomes, or pursue larger projects such as shopping malls. Depending on the state you live in and your particular goals, you may need to obtain a real estate license as an agent or Broker.

To simplify, there are typically three categories of property managers:

-Individual Building Manager - Employed directly by the owner to
manage a single property.

-Individual Property Manager - Handles multiple properties for
several owners. They have their own firm, or work as part of a
property management company or real estate organization.

-Resident Manager - Manages an apartment building and usually
resides on the premises. He/she is employed by either a real estate
Broker or the owner.

Some of the duties involved in managing properties are record-keeping, rent collection, showing the property to perspective tenants, running credit and background checks, preparing leases and rental agreements, advertising vacancies, and hiring and training building personnel.

An important skill all property managers should master is marketing – because vacant buildings mean loss in profits. Property managers need to be aware of popular trends and desirable features that attract clients. For example, energy efficient properties are in high demand. Savvy property managers who pursue green training or renewable energy education will be better equipped to fill the demands of today's green-conscious consumer.

Unlike many career choices, being a property manager doesn't require lots of formalized education. However, a Bachelor's Degree is helpful in getting your foot in the door as an assistant property manager, regional manager, or a leasing consultant for a large community. All in all, the key to moving up and increasing your success is with actual experience in the field.

Finally, property managers who belong to respectable member organizations receive extra credibility as well as support. One such group is the International Real Estate Institute (IREI). Employers frequently look to these groups for prospective personnel since all members must agree to uphold and follow a certain code of ethics.

Are you ready to begin a property management career? Choose an online property management course, differentiate yourself by grasping green building principles and begin the rewarding career you deserve. What about gaining a competitive edge for that promotion you deserve? No matter what your career plans are, an online school can provide the convenience and flexibility one needs to balance daily obligations with educational pursuits.

The key to a successful online educational experience starts with selecting the right online school. The selection process requires careful consideration and the following checklist is a great place to start.

1. 100% Online Courses
Make sure the program you choose is truly 100% online. Some schools offer courses with online and classroom requirements. Avoid the confusion. Select an online educational institution with 100% online courses that are self-paced and accessible 24/7.

2. Personalized Student Support
Choose an online school that offers live technical and academic support with multiple contact options: email, phone and fax. If you get stuck on a concept, assistance is within reach. And here's a good tip - make sure your school's support department is staffed by more than one person. Your time is precious.

3. Accreditation
Your online school of choice should be accredited by a nationally-recognized accrediting agency. In order for any school to receive accreditation, they must constantly adhere to strict guidelines. For example, the school must be financially sound, have qualified instructors, approved policies/procedures and much more. Beware of schools lacking proper accreditation - your hard-earned certification or licensing could lose all credibility.

4. Variety of Online Training Courses
Choose an online school with educational programs in growing industries. For example, with Obama's plans to improve our nation's health care system and renewable energy use a major focus nationwide, these industries are in need of trained workers. Selecting an online school with certification and licensing programs in an industry poised for growth is simply a smart choice.

5. Job Assistance
You just completed your online education program. Now what? If you chose an online school with job assistance, you can request the help you need to pursue a new career. Services may include resume and cover letter reviews, interview tips and more.

6. Payment Plans
Worried about money? Align yourself with an online school that offers flexible payment plans. Some payment plans will even allow you to start your course at a low cost, followed by affordable monthly payments.

7. Military Tuition Assistance
If you're in the military, choose a school that accepts your Military Tuition Assistance (TA) benefits. As an active-duty service member, TA benefits may cover up to 100% of your online education. Spouses of active-duty service members can also benefit by selecting an online school that accepts Military Spouse Career Advancement Account Program (MSCAAP) benefits, which can provide spouses up to $6,000for their education.

8. History of Success
Are there student testimonials on your prospective online training school's web site? How long have they been established? Did past students have successful experiences with their courses and the school's policies? These are the kinds of questions to consider when pursuing education courses online.

An online education is an ideal choice for those who like to manage their own time, enjoy learning from home and must attend to other responsibilities while pursuing their education. Choose your online education program carefully and you'll be on your way to a rewarding career in no time.

Green is the Future - Students Can Capitalize on New Opportunity with Obama-Centric Green Courses

Joining the growing green industry, Allied Schools has launched a new website that promotes the benefits and career potential of "green" careers. With a focus on green awareness, the school has added new online courses that train for employment in today's eco-friendly careers and provide opportunities beyond those of traditional careers.

Allied recently launched Training 4 Green, www.training4green.com, which is designed to support students' needs for green training options and promote the environmental and financial benefits of careers in this growing industry. Training4Green showcases green career training and provides the resources students need to be successful - including a quick and easy log-in to Allied's online courses.

"We recognize the career potential of the Green economy," said George Achenbach, president of Allied Schools. "With an increased focus by the Obama administration, the green industry provides a wealth of opportunity for people with the right training. At Allied, we want to provide a gateway into this exciting industry with courses that are timely and innovative for today's job market."

The first course offering includes Solar I: The Business of Solar, which provides students with the fundamentals of operating a solar energy business - from building a business to developing sales strategies. The course is also available with other Allied courses to provide customized career training programs - including the Green Real Estate Appraisal Package, Green Home Inspection Package, Green Property Management Package and Green Contractor Premium Package. The Obama administration has committed to doubling U.S. renewable energy by 2012, and plans to invest $150 billion over 10 years toward the nation's clean energy economy. These plans are designed to help create five million new jobs during this timeframe - creating a wealth of opportunities in a growing industry.

Solar and green technology has the potential to add value to residential and commercial property - opening the door to career opportunities nationwide. With "green" career training, students can choose to build a consulting business, add value to their existing career and launch an entirely new business opportunity. Their knowledge of natural solar resources, green sales strategies and concepts, and energy efficient technologies will enable them to find a unique niche in today's green industry.

"It is really an exciting time for the green industry," said Achenbach. "People have an opportunity to a create tailor-made career - if they want to be a real estate appraiser, they can get additional "green" training and set their career apart from everyone else. The green movement is only going to increase and it is an ideal time to customize a career that will be in demand for years to come."

Allied Schools provides convenient online courses that allow individuals to attend class from any location and study according to their own schedule. The course materials are available 24/7 - they can log onto their courses when they have time. The online education is also self-paced, allowing them to learn at an accelerated rate or keep a regular pace throughout their studies. Live student support is available if they need assistance with their course.

Projected to be One of the Fastest Growing Occupations in the Next Decade, Pharmacy Technician Training is a Safe Bet for a Solid Future

With job opportunities expected to be "very good," a pharmacy technician career is an ideal way to join an industry that is positioned for huge growth. Allied Schools has added a Pharmacy Technician Program to its list of vocational courses, offering relevant, high-demand training that can lead to certification - and long-term career opportunity.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to increase by 32 percent from 2006 to 2016, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. The increased number of individuals, including middle-aged and elderly people, requiring prescription drugs will spur demand for qualified pharmacy technicians - and create an opportunity to play an integral role in the health and welfare of others.

"We are proud to offer the new Pharmacy Technician Program to students," said George Achenbach, president of Allied Schools. "It is a timely addition to our courses and will prepare students to fill the huge need for qualified pharmacy technicians. Also, with the uncertainty of the economy, this should enable people to open the door to a solid career - it's relevant and in-demand right now."

Allied's Pharmacy Technician Program consists of two online courses - Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Calculations - that cover such relevant topics as: essentials of medical history, pharmacy settings, drug regulation and administration, terminology, formulating and calculating prescriptions, elements of patient interaction and more. Students study in an online format, which enables them to learn anytime, anywhere –textbooks are included with the tuition. The program includes assignments, practice problems, instructional Webcasts, multiple-choice online quizzes and final exam.

Pharmacy technicians work alongside licensed pharmacists as they provide medication and other health care products to patients. They work in a comfortable pharmacy setting performing duties such as verifying prescription information, counting and measuring medication, preparing insurance claim forms, managing inventories, completing pharmaceutical dosage forms and more. A career as a pharmacy technician can lead to opportunities in hospitals, community pharmacies, outpatient clinics, nursing homes and pharmaceutical organizations.

Job opportunities for pharmacy technicians are expected to be good, especially for those with certification. Allied's Pharmacy Technician course is designed to help prepare students to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam - providing them with the credentials to advance in their career. Potential benefits of certification include: increased responsibilities, promotion to supervisory positions and mentoring or training pharmacy technicians with less experience. The highest 10 percent of pharmacy technicians earn over $17.65 per hour, with certified technicians potentially earning even more (Source: BLS).

Allied's online Pharmacy Technician Program allows individuals to attend class from any location and study according to their own schedule. The course materials are available 24/7 - they can log onto their courses when they have time. The online education is also self-paced, allowing them to learn at an accelerated rate or keep a regular pace throughout their studies. Live student support is available if they need assistance with their course.

"It is an exciting time to work in the health care industry," said Achenbach. "Health care was the only industry to add jobs last month, and the pharmacy technician occupation is an ideal way to get started. It's a non-clinical career that plays an essential role throughout the entire industry - wherever there are health care facilities, there will be pharmacies."

Are You Ready for the New Green Economy? And even if you are still working and have been blessed enough to avoid the worst of the recession, you should still consider why more training may help. Attending college or enrolling in a career training program to earn a professional certificate can be a way to stand out in today's job market.

Here are some important reasons to get more career training:

1. Broaden your range -- You may love what you do, but adding another skill to your career possibilities can't hurt.

2. Secure your current job -- Very few people have guaranteed jobs; one way to hold onto your job is to learn a skill that will help your current employer right now.

3. Join a growing industry -- The recession is hitting some industries harder than others. If you're in a field that is hurting, you can train for a job in another career field. The medical field, for example, is still doing well despite the economic downturn.

4. Do something you love -- Maybe you don't care for your current job and have always dreamed of doing something else. Why wait? Enroll in an online course where you can keep your current job and study at night! One day you may be ready to transition.

5. Keep up with the latest technology -- It's possible that your current job may be transformed or all together replaced by automation and computers. If you don't know much about computers, you owe it to yourself to enroll in a course and learn more.

6. Take advantage of future opportunities -- The real estate industry, for example, may be down right now, but it's hard to imagine that it will remain this way for much longer. If you want to work on your own and rely on your sales skills, perhaps a future as a real estate agent is for you -- prepare now for opportunities to come!

This is just a sampling of reasons why you might want to look into career training. Many people avoid going back to school because they fear they'd have to quit their current job. Not so! One important option for working adults is distance education. Learning online or through traditional correspondence is the answer to a self-paced, flexible education.

Time Management is Key as a Distance Education Student

There's no doubt that studying from home, much like working from home, is attractive to many people and increasingly more common. As our economy continues to struggle, more layoffs often mean more people are working part time or improving their skills with more education. For a number of people, both working and studying from home is an important option.

It must be said that distance education, like telecommuting, requires one very important condition for people to be successful: effective time management. While taking an online class eliminates the rigidity of a class schedule and the requirements that assignments and lessons be completed within a certain time period, it does require self discipline.

The best bet is to block out time each day for your course; this is when you'll log onto your computer and begin your lesson. It's also when you'll do assignments and work on required reading, if necessary. During that time it's important not to answer the phone, watch TV or check your email. Think of it this way: if you were in a traditional classroom you would never entertain these kinds of distractions - treat your distance education class with the same level of respect.

Another important way to ensure success is to set up an area, preferably with a desk, that is your "study area." When you go and sit down in this area, you will be focusing exclusively on your course. Understandably not all people have the space to reserve an area just for studying, but avoid taking your laptop to the couch and logging onto your class while the television is on and your family members are coming in and out of the room.

When you sign up for a traditional class at a local school, there is a fixed class schedule and neither you nor the teacher can modify it at will. The same should apply for your distance education class - keep the same schedule for yourself as much as you can. If, for example, your sister can come over to your house on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday nights to babysit your son, that should become the time you grab your laptop and head into the bedroom to study without interruption.

The advantage of distance education is that you can "attend class" at any hour of the day or week. Some people get their work done early in the morning, others at night, while some can only manage to do bits and pieces here and there; whatever your schedule dictates, it is important to stick to it.

Effective time management can provide the means you need to succeed as a distance education student. If you pace yourself, study regularly and complete assignments in a timely manner, you will find it easier to stay on track and complete your course on time. Being a responsible student is necessary for any type of education; however in distance education, it is a vital component of success.

How to Benefit from Getting Your California Contractor License

Do you like the idea of managing the daily activities of a construction business? Potential students should be sure to bookmark some of their favorite school's website and check them on a regular basis for specials.

Private vocational schools often have special offers, allowing students to enroll in career training programs at a considerable discount. Students can also request more information from a school, which usually means they will also receive emails announcing special offers on course enrollments.

Students not having any additional training beyond high school can enroll in a vocational career training program online, which may only take months to complete, instead of years.

Career training graduates often receive a certificate that demonstrates proficiency in a particular field. In other cases, students use the career training program as a springboard for passing the state exam and earning state certification in their new field.

If you want to become a real estate agent, for example, you can enroll in an online real estate license program that will help you prepare for the real estate exam in your particular state.

While a real estate career can be an end in itself, many people have ambitions to get their associate degree and eventually their bachelor's degree also. In this case, one can look at online schools that offer vocational certificate programs, along with associate and bachelor's degree programs.

Many schools that offer a range of both vocational and degree programs, would love to have students enter at the certificate level and stay with the school all the way through their degree program. When students speak with a school's admissions representative, they should be sure to ask about the school's full-range of educational programs.

In the end, these difficult economic times are an opportunity for schools, but more importantly they are an opportunity for men and women who are looking to enhance their education without breaking the bank to do it.

Injured Workers Have Training Options - Benefits Can Get Them Re-trained and Back on the Job in Today's Most Sought-After Careers

Allied Vocational Rehabilitation School addresses the needs of injured workers and provides them with the means to re-enter the workforce in promising careers, while helping counselors manage their cases in this tough economy. Alex Calderon, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), says, "Allied's large number of programs and their ability to provide remote training in rural areas and across the border in Mexico has provided our clients with vocational alternatives that otherwise they would not have."

People might not know that Workers' Compensation benefits exist for injured workers and that there is up to $10,000 available to them for re-training. Allied serves as a bridge between students and their new careers by addressing benefit questions and matching them with online training in high-demand careers. The benefits provide the means for injured workers to enroll in a course and return to work fast in stable, relevant careers - putting then at an advantage in the current job market.

"For employees that have been injured, it can be challenging for them to take the first step and get re-trained in a new career," said George Achenbach, president of Allied Schools. "At Allied, we want to make the voc rehab process easier and guide students every step of the way - from understanding their Workers' Compensation benefits to entering the job market with marketable skills. We also want to ease the burden of counselors."

Today's competitive job market requires highly sought-after career skills. Allied offers 20+ career-training courses in medical, real estate and business - with available medical coding, medical transcription and solar technology training that will be in high demand due to the new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Courses, such as medical billing, real estate salesperson, home inspection, property management and private investigation, can be completed in as little as six months and lend themselves to opportunities nationwide. Allied's representatives are bilingual and courses available in Spanish make career training an option for all students.

On Track Personal Service (OTPS) partners students with an Academic Advisor. Through this unique collaboration, students are given the tools to successfully complete their programs in a timely manner, with regular phone calls and personalized support. Counselors are constantly informed of their progress with weekly progress reports. Layne Guinnane, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) says, "The On-Track Personal Service sets this school apart from all other home-based training programs. I have found the results I have achieved through Allied for my clients to be equal to or superior to many site-based schools."

To make a smooth transition back into the workplace, Allied has created the Job Assistance Network (JANET), a four-week course that provides students with the skills to conduct a successful job search. Included with their career training, the program teaches students learn how to write an effective cover letter and resume, uncover job leads and network with industry professionals - with the intention to provide valuable job search skills that lead to rewarding and stable employment.

"The bottom line is that we care about our students and want to see them succeed," said Achenbach. "We know that they have been faced with difficult circumstances and our top priority is helping them get back to work and earning a paycheck as soon as possible."

The career-training programs, personalized support and job assistance give students all of the benefits of a traditional school with the convenience of learning at home. Online courses put career training within reach, regardless or circumstance or location, and enables students to study anytime in a comfortable setting. Students get retrained and back to work, and counselors have peace of mind that their cases are being properly managed and resolved - the ideal outcome for everyone.

Allied Offers Solar Technology and Medical Career Training -- Important Careers for the Growth and Stability of U.S. Economy

President Barack Obama delivered his Address to the Joint Session of Congress Tuesday and Allied Schools' educational philosophy is in line with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- offering educational options in solar technology and health care and promoting the importance of additional career training.

As a result of the enactment of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, 3.5 million jobs will be saved and/or created in the energy, health care and education fields. With the new opportunities comes an increased need for career training and support of these fields. Allied Schools has invested in energy and health care and provides education in these needed careers.

Solar technology is changing the way properties are developed, valued, marketed and sold -- learning how to make homes and offices more energy-efficient will save on energy costs and create new jobs.

Higher standards in electronic health records and new technology will lead to increased opportunities in the health care industry. Allied students can enroll in a medical billing and coding or medical transcription course and apply their knowledge and technical ability to a stable career. As the need for accurate and reliable health records increase, so will the need for qualified professionals.

Today, a solid education is required to attain long-term, stable career opportunities. President Obama has called upon Americans "to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. This can be community college or a four-year school; vocational training or an apprenticeship." Allied recognizes that the proper skills and training will enable people to maintain a fruitful career and contribute to society.

Allied's career training programs are ideal for today's busy adults -- active-duty military, working individuals and stay-at-home moms -- because it allows them to attend class anywhere, any time. They decide where and when to learn, according to their own schedule; course materials are available 24/7. Live student support is available throughout the duration of their program when they enroll.

Why Online Training is Smart in a Difficult Market

Today's economy is forcing many to look at their career future and decide whether it's time to get more training or whether it's time to get an entirely new career.

While the idea of more career training sounds nice, many people can't spare the time to enroll in a career program. Many people associate going back to school with having to be a student full time, with big chunks of their week dedicated solely to being in a class.

And when it comes to attending class, there are other concerns such as commuting to campus, paying for parking and arranging babysitters. While this may be the reality for some students enrolling in traditional classes, it's certainly not the situation for students who enroll in 100% online career training.

As an online student, you can work full time or care for your children full time as well as take care of responsibilities to your friends and community. Enrolling in an online training program means you can study at home when it's convenient for you. If you're a morning person, you can log onto your computer at 6 a.m. and get started on your course -- it's your choice.

In addition to people who work full time, stay-at-home parents find that the flexibility inherent in online training is a real plus. Moms and Dads who are busy taking care of the children during the day can study early in the morning, late at night, on the weekends or even while the children are napping.

Online career training also has the advantage of being self-paced. In a traditional classroom, if you don't understand a lesson on the day it is taught, you may be left behind. Online learning means that you can go back over a lesson as many times as you need until you get it right.

And so with all this in mind, you can see that choosing online education during this economic crisis allows you to keep your day job and/or continue to take care of your children. While you may have your dreams set on a future career, a steady pay check from your current employer is an important source of support these days; keep money coming into your house while you plan for your future career with online training.

It's equally important during this economic time to reduce expenses as much as possible. The expense of day care or babysitters is something that some online students do not have to worry about. Enroll in your course, take care of your children and then study during the windows of time that best suit your schedule.

Online schools offer a variety of career training courses that can be completed in a matter of months, not years. Students can enroll in courses in the real estate, medical and business fields. Options include courses like medical coder, home inspector, pharmacy technician, California licensed contractor and real estate broker.

Allied is Approved Training Provider for New AVOTEC Pilot Program

Allied has been tapped as a participating vocational school of the new Army Vocational/Technical (AVOTEC) Pilot Program -- making it 1 of 2 approved schools in California to provide education under the program.

Allied Schools worked directly with the Army, including an in-depth application process, to be added as an approved education provider. As a result, soldiers can now enroll in certificate programs under the AVOTEC program at Allied and benefit from 100% online real estate, medical and business career training programs.

"We are proud to serve the military community and provide a means for soldiers to get in-demand career training," said George Achenbach, president of Allied Schools. "Online vocational courses make it possible for these men and women to create fulfilling post-Army careers and we are pleased to play a part in this beneficial program."

The AVOTEC Pilot Program enables soldiers to use up to $4,500 to get training for a smooth transition into their post-Army career. Their education must be finished in less than 18 months; and they must enroll before September 30, 2009 to be eligible.

Click here to learn more about Allied's AVOTEC Pilot Program

Allied's career training programs are ideal for active-duty soldiers because it allows them to attend class from almost anywhere, even a remote country or location. They decide where and when to learn, according to their own schedule; course materials are available 24/7. Live student support is available throughout the duration of their program when they enroll. Job assistance is also available to help with their job search.

Additionally, soldiers can get a jumpstart on their college degree. With training from Allied Schools, they may be able to apply their vocational training to an Allied American University degree program. They can study worldwide with 100% online degree programs.

Benefits include: a quick, complimentary transfer credit evaluation, weekly enrollments (52 starts per year), no fees, textbook grant and live student support.

Soldiers can call (888) 501-5221 to get started with an approved AVOTEC school. A short-term certificate program can give them the high-demand training needed to start a fulfilling post-Army career.

Online Degree Program is Now Offered

Allied American University (AAU) is a division of Allied Business Schools, Inc., and is dedicated to providing the type of education that students need to succeed in higher education.

AAU was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council in June of 2008.

AAU offers Associate and Bachelor'sDegree programs in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice and General Studies. The only schedule you have is your own; go as fast or as slow as you want.

Students attending an online school get on their computer, log into the school's site and begin working on assignments or reviewing career course training material. Quizzes and tests are taken online and the scores are often instantly available so the students know where they stand.

Although there is much to be said for the camaraderie of fellow classmates in a traditional classroom, the one size fits all practice of classrooms often penalize those who wish to go faster, as well as those who would prefer a slower look at the material. With online career training, there is no teacher or classmates to determine the pace of the class, it is all left up to you!

Allied Schools, www.alliedschools.com

Great Health Care Jobs for the Rest of Us

You've always wanted a career in health care, but medical school isn't in the cards and the thought of a 12-hour nursing shift leaves you cold. The good news, fortunately, is that you can train for a professional health care job without going to school for years and years.

In no particular order, here are five great health care jobs that you can begin training for now:

Medical Transcriptionist: Doctors record their notes into a tape recorder. Medical transcriptionists, with their knowledge of medical terminology, transcribe the recordings into legible reports. Possible as a home-based career after you complete medical transcription training.

Medical Administrative Assistant: Schedule and greet patients, manage paperwork, supervise medical office staffers; be the administrative hub of a medical office or doctor's office.
Medical Coder: Read medical reports about a patient's diagnosis and the medical procedures used, and then assign a specific code for the purpose of accurate billing and record keeping.

Medical Biller: Make sure doctors get paid for services by completing claim forms and billing insurance companies. Follow each insurance carrier's policies and procedures to ensure everyone gets paid.

Dental Office Assistant: Work right alongside the dentist chair helping dentists and patients in a dental office. Your knowledge of dental terminology and dental office procedures will make you invaluable to both dental patients and your dental office colleagues.

Pharmacy Technician: The impending retirement of the baby boomers will mean an increased demand for both health care and medication. Pharmacy techs will have job opportunities for years to come. Help prepare prescriptions in a retail pharmacy, nursing home or mail-order pharmacy.

It's important for busy moms, military personnel, military spouses or anyone else who wants a new career to remember that training for a health care position can be done without neglecting current day-to-day responsibilities - and that's because of the convenience of distance (online) education.

Online courses allow students to train at night and on the weekends and also from the comfort of their own homes. Enrolling in a distance education program is also a practical way to beat the cost of rising gasoline prices.

Allied Schools Donates Educational Tools Worth Over $30K to Boys & Girls Club

Laguna Hills, Calif. - April 1, 2008 - Allied Schools made a large donation of tape recorders and software to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana valued at approximately $32,000. More than 4,000 underprivileged and promising children who participate in educational programs at the Club will benefit from Allied's generous contribution.

"With the help from caring individuals like you (Allied), the Club can continue to enhance its programs like homework help, computer literacy and job training, and other programs that enable our youth to learn valuable skills necessary to be successful in our competitive world," said Kathy Brown, interim executive director for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana.

Allied Schools, nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), believes an education should be within reach to all who seek one out. That's why Allied created a unique online experience where students obtain the top-level education they desire in a self-paced and affordable manner.

"Everyone should have the opportunity for an education," said George Achenbach, president and CEO of Allied Schools. "We're proud to be affiliated with an organization like the Boys & Girls Club. They mirror Allied's own company culture by providing a rewarding experience that instills confidence and inspires people to do great things."

With educational programs that cater to children as young as six all the way up to helping young adults with graduation requirements, Allied's contribution supports the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana in continuing their much-needed mission.

Brown whole-heartedly agrees. "Thank you for your generosity, time and investment in our youth."

To learn more about Allied Schools, please visit www.alliedschools.com or call (800) 617-3513.

Allied Schools Sends Care Packages to the Troops

Laguna Hills, Calif. - March 14, 2008 - American service members deployed across the globe will soon get a taste of home as they receive care packages courtesy of a California-based military school online.

Allied Schools recently collaborated with the non-profit organization Operation Military Pride, which has been helping to send care packages to deployed-service members since 1995.

Allied Schools sent out over 300 care packages containing in-demand items like sun screen, lip balm, beef jerky, Ibuprofen, breakfast cereal and hot sauce - products that service members in countries like Iraq have found to be especially helpful and comforting.

The care packages were filled and boxed up by Allied Schools' staff at their Southern California headquarters in mid-March and then sent overseas. Service members receiving the care packages will also have the opportunity to win a laptop computer each month until June.

"We've been fortunate to enroll over 10,000 service members in the last four years," said George Achenbach, president, Allied Schools. "The care packages are our way of saying 'thank you' to the men and women who serve this nation."

Allied Schools is an important resource for service members because they can take a course while deployed simply by logging onto a computer; Allied offers both military and civilian students career training in the medical field, business and real estate. Allied also offers military spouse scholarships.

Allied's Military Family Scholarship Program offers education benefits for military spouses: when a service member enrolls at Allied using Tuition Assistance, their spouse or dependent trains at no charge. The hope is that no-tuition career training will lead to jobs for military spouses.

To learn more about Allied Schools or military benefits, visit www.education4military.com or call (888) 501-5221 to speak with an admissions representative
